Your Guide to El Paso, Texas

El Paso is located on the northern bank of Rio Grande in West Texas. The name of the city means the crossing and it provided a route to the north so known as El Paso. Following the Mexican American war in 1848, El Paso fell into US ownership and became a city by the early 1870s. It is the fifth largest city and one of the new urban centers with a Latin flavor and regular inflow of tourists. El Paso has a strong economy boosted by the mining, petrol and defense sectors.
It is home to events such as the Oktoberfest and Armed Forces Day, Wilderness Park Museum, El Paso Museum of Art and more. Apart from being a cultural center, it is home to 565,500 persons as per the 2014 US Census, from varied ethnicity with three quarters of the city’s population being Latin American.
